Roman Public Buildings

Where did the Romans perform their rituals?

There were many public buildings for the Romans to go to for example the baths, temples, Mansios/a roman inn, churches and of course theaters and amphitheaters.

Temples and Churches

The temple and the church were one of the places where the public of Rome could go to worship one of the many gods.

The Baths

The baths was where the Romans used to go in public to wash and cleanse there body. There wash would not just be get in a huge bath together and wash it was like a tiny ritual for the body. First the body must be heated and covered in oil till the body sweats then dirt would be scraped off then they would plunge into the cold large bath which was like a swimming pool today. This would conclude the ritual. There would be different times for each sex to bathe or sometimes there were two baths one for each sex.

Mansios

These were basically roman inns for the public to visit each night. There were places for rest and refreshment. These buildings used to be huge to fit a lot of citizens daily.

Theaters and Amphitheaters

Places for public to watch a play and the fights.
