War is a way people strive and struggle for glory and victory, and sometimes even for fame. Back in the primitive society, war is a kind of mental and physical conquers to eliminate the weakest tribes while rising up the power of the strongest tribes. This is the way how people at that moment survived for competition. Objectively, some people may think that war has promoted human evolution, nevertheless, this statement leaves many pro and con of the war.
In the society with obvious class stratification, the nature and concept of the war has changed. The war is regarded as a form to compete for territory, to expand sovereignty, and to suppress the people. On the battlefield, a large number of young workers were killed and seriously injured. At the same time, millions of families have lost their beloved children, spouses or any closely related bonds as the war has thrown human's life into endless and terrible disaster.
When Western Europe entered the phase of capitalist society, they have used the power of advance science and technology to promote war. The greediness of the capitalists had led their attempts to uphold the malignant capitalism ideology within the society. The capitalists utilized the tanks and bombs to colonize Asia in order to seize for cheap raw materials and commodities. With their powerful weapons, they conquered the lands of Africa and America by killing and slavering red Indians, indigenous and black people.
In the early of 20th century, capitalists utilized their power of colonialism to aggressively rob more lands in order to meet their desires to expand the border of their territories by adopting the ideology of imperialism. The contradiction among the colonialists became intensified as they competed to conquer more lands. In 1914, Germany, Austria, Italy were allied with Britain, France and Russia to initiate the First World War. In the same year on August 23, Japan declared the war on Germany. In January 1917, the United States participated in the war. In 1918, 33 countries from the world's three large continents initiated the unprecedented human World War II.
The World War II lasted for 4 years and 3 months, and involved more than three quarter of the world's population or 15 million people at that time. More than 8,000 million of people were sent to the battlefield, and more than 30 million people have become victims in this war. Approximately 10 million of them died of hunger and bombs attack. Countries that involved in this war suffered total economic losses of about 270 billion US dollars.
During the First World War, colonists have brought along with their scientifically designed tanks and any other weapons that could take away lives to the battlefield. Chlorine was first used by the German in the war. Later, they developed the more advance chlorine-weapons with killing power as high as 10 times than that the previous version. Not soon after that, British and French created their own poisonous bombs. These bombs were furnished with higher toxicity substances which can lead to the decaying of human skins. In this one-year long tragic war, the soldiers were the victims, and more than one million of them died of poisonous.
No winner or loser in the war. The capitalists who upheld the war were the chief culprit that killed many innocent lives. The battlefield was actually a boxing competition between the colonists who wished to certify their positions as “BIG BROTHER.” Therefore, a series of wars were proceeded to achieve this purpose. In fact, the capitalist system did not collapse as claimed by someone, but they continued the war on behalf of their personal gains. As a result, the battlefield was actually the imperial field to extend the colonialism. The battlefield was engulfed with smelly blood with lots of human bodies piling up just because of these people who proposed this ridiculous war.
The Second World War took place shortly after the First World War. The imperialists who suffered from economic crisis in the First World War tried to push the catastrophe of the war to other countries.
From 1931, the incidence of “September 18” until the incidence of “July 7” in 1937, Japanese imperialists had attacked aggressively against China. In September 1939, Germany invaded Poland, initiating the outbreak of World War II. The war proceeded until September 1945 with the surrender of Japanese imperialists. This six-year long war finally ended the World War II. This war involved more than 20 million people from more than 60 regions in the world. This terrified war, undoubtedly, has taken away 50 million human lives, which killed 20 million people in the Soviet Union and 18 million people in China. The total economic loss for this war was estimated for 1.154 trillion US dollars.
No winner and no loser. True. Sadly, the struggle for land, power, and prestige in one form or another will always be part of existence for as long as there is civilization. Doesn't seem so civilized when we see the end results, does it?
Great article, Chan.
