Mexico, exactly what do people see in there heads when they hear the name of that country? Maybe you see a poor and polluted place, packed with sweatshops. Or maybe you see a nice warm beach, and crashing waves, a great place for vacation.
What I think when people say Mexico, is one of the most amazing and fascinating buildings in the history of the Americas, Teotihuacán, or “City where men become gods”. Once the largest city in the Americas, now a small tourist area with a history at least 10 times larger. What history you may ask? Well, it just happens to have one of the most puzzling. No one has a clue who built it, what their intentions for it were, and what exactly the point of abandoning such a costly and majestic city was.
The reason this city would have been so costly because every single one of the buildings is a large obsidian pyramid. Perhaps the two most eye catching buildings are the largest, also known as the twin pyramids, “The Pyramid of the Sun” and “The Pyramid of the Moon” there purpose is unknown, but it still doesn't fail to fascinate.
Aztec, Toltec, Maya, and Olmec are the tribes responsible for building the city, but it has not yet been proven. It was known to be a sanctuary for those in need of a home. Another mysterious thing is the Toltecs, the tribe that spent the most time building and marveling there majestic structures are supposedly the ones who burnt down and sacked the city. More mysteries are known to be buried under the Pyramid of the Sun, but it was built in such a way that if the landscape underneath is disrupted the Pyramid will cave in and be lost forever.
I guess it will take the entire human race to work around this problem. Every time you think you've caught onto something, there is more information that leads that great idea to an abrupt dead end. This may very well be a “World Famous Brain Teaser.”
