After WWII was over, and the allied nations of the U.S.A., Britain, France, and the Soviet Union had won the war, they called for a meeting to start planning out what would be known as the United Nations. In April of 1945, delegates from around the world met in San Francisco to discuss this peace-keeping board.
This board was created in hopes to finally create world peace, especially after WWII. The organization was created as a successor of the League of Nations, seeing that that organization couldn't prevent WWII from happening. Soon after the organization set up its headquarters in New York City, it faced its first major problem.
Many religious people were fighting over the land we know as Afghanistan. So, to try to keep peace, the U.N. decided to split the country up into two smaller ones. One would be for Arabs and the other for Jews. As soon as this took effect, the Jews declared the founding of Israel. But people weren't very happy. The Arab nations then after invaded Israel with hopes of destroying the nation, and the Jews living in it completely.
This conflict started a war between the Jews and the Arabs, but a couple months later, the Jews declared victory. Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the last war these two sides fought, and it showed the U.N. how hard it would really be to keep world piece amongst many nations.
