Valley Forge

The winter at Valley Forge was a cruel and deadly camp for the Patriots.

Many of them had no clothes because the government couldn't afford them. They had no shoes. But they still drilled on, determined to beat the British.

After the victory at Saratoga, the Patriots camped out at Valley Forge. They were exhausted. Most had no shirt and some were even naked. Almost everybody was barefooted. However, Baron von Steuben mad them drill again and again. 2,000 soldiers died of hunger and disease. Meanwhile, the British were living a life of luxury in Philadelphia.

I think that the Patriots were treated unfairly. But maybe they shouldn't have camped at such a bad place to be. Maybe the government should have prepared better for the war. I admire them for their persistent drilling though.
