Why Is Africa So Behind?

How imperialism has stunted Africa's growth.

In my opinion, Africa's problem today is directly related to the Age of Imperialism because it is what caused Africa to remain behind other countries.

In the Age of Imperialism the Europeans prevented the Africans from advancing to a well-developed country by making changes and taking things from them that could have made an impact on their development.

There are many problems that the continent as a whole suffers from. One is that Africa is behind in technology and science. This results in an increase of death rates because there is no medicine to cure the diseases. Farming methods needs to be improved with better technology, so more food can be produced to prevent starvation.

Africa is behind in technology because other countries have been taking people from there as slaves. Slavery improved these countries' economy while Africa's went down. And most of the intelligent African people who could have made a difference were instead captured by the Europeans as a slaves.

Another problem that the counties in Africa are not united. There are many different African tribes who are constantly fighting each other. If they were united as one, more work could be done. The reason is that the Europeans countries each had control over their own parts of Africa, which they changes a lot of things of the country. Also, the tribes have different religious beliefs because of the influence of the European countries.

The third problem is that the Age of Imperialism caused an uneven distribution of wealth. The white people in the Africa are wealthy while the Africans remained poor. This was caused by the white people who thought they were superior, so they took the advantage of the Africans and used them as slaves. Later, the countries in Africa eventually got their independence and freedom.
