Years ago the N-Word was used to degrade slaves in the United States. Owners called them this to anger them and keep them on task. The word Nigger derives from the Spanish word ne-gros which means black. Over years of the words use, it has changed meaning and has evolved into a derogatory term. The word is now used to insult black people and also is used in common speech.
Many fights have been started over use of this common word. Black people often use it in conversation. But white people rarely use it for fear of it insulting black people. I believe that the word should be used but not in an offensive way. It is not right to hear black people calling each other this, when years ago they were offended
Why would black people insult themselves? Is this just a fad or will it stay and live in our lives forever? No one will know, the only people who have control over the use of this word is us, Americans and the people of the world. In order to make a difference, the word should not be banned it should only be protested to not to use it. In the Constitution, the 1st Amendment assures United States citizens freedom of speech. If a law or act was tried to be made, it would be impossible to dodge the 1st Amendment. I think that movements would help the word nor be said so often and show people the real meaning.
