Secondly, the Entente was a stronger alliance than the Central Powers was a big reason for the loss. The Entente plainly had a larger number of troops than the Central Powers which increased their fighting force and effectiveness. E.g. when the Americans had entered the war they were bringing 50,000 troops a week and troops were also coming from the commonwealth countries e.g. Canada and Australia. So the Entente generally won the battle of numbers. The Entente was richer than the Central Powers which made it much easier to buy weapons and munitions, weapons were easily replaced and payment for advanced technology. At the end of the war it was calculated that the Entente had spent $147 billion whereas the Central Powers spent $62 billion. Lastly Britain and France had larger empires than Germany, e.g. Commonwealth countries coming in to fight for the Entente like South Africa, Canada and Australia. Which increased the Entente numbers and effectiveness with groups like the Canadian Royal Artillery.
Thirdly, the failure of the Central Powers to win the war of technology. Over the years the Entente had put money in research of better munitions and armaments, the Central Powers had ignored this and thought that generally infantry will win the war for them. E.g. the Entente had developed tanks, huge metal machines with cannons and machine guns on them these could also go over trenches which gave a massive advantage to the Entente. These same tanks were used to repel the Ludondorff Offensive and at the second battle of the Marne. These tanks were a huge advantage to the Entente and increased their effectiveness and attacking power greatly. The Entente also had developed better airplanes than the Central Powers especially bombers which were used to bomb strategic positions such as bridges, supply bases and convoys. And increased the Entente ' s flexibility. The Entente also had a better and larger navy the numbers were 3:1 in the Entente ' s favour which was very useful to beat Germans in
a lot of naval battles and to blockade ports, made Entente more powerful.
Fourthly, another reason was that Germany lost the war at sea which seriously crippled the German army and fighting force. The Entente navies had the majority of the German ports blocked which really favoured the Entente because this meant that German civilians had no food or raw materials to work and make ammunition and other supplies for the German troops, the armies had basic supply shortages and troop problems. German soldiers had no food which meant no energy for fighting and decreased their effectiveness. The German troops were getting pushed by the Entente because of starvation problems, ammunition and weapons problems making lots of problems whilst fighting the Entente. Also the German ports were blockaded stopping the Germans of making any navy to try and control the seas, no German navy was used and the British dominated the seas which opened up a path to The Turkish Empire. British also used the seas to cripple German home front and defeat the German ' s allies.
Lastly, the failure of the German home front. Rationing was never introduced in Germany which led to starvation - civilian and army, most food was given to the army which lead to protests in the German people. These protests led to demonstrations demanding the end of the war which would have dampened the general morale of the German people. Civilians were dieing and civilian protests lead to weapon and food shortages, the British did use it and the home front was better. Germans sent key workers such as farmers and bakers into the war, this created problems as in the workplace of these skilled men, amateurs were doing the jobs and were not effective as the normal workers this led to basic supply problems. The German Revolution in 1918 ended the war basically, German sailors had enough of the war and marched to Berlin and kicked the Kaiser out of power, he escaped to Holland never to return. The German people took over and sent over two diplomats to sign the Treat Of Versailles and ended the war.
In Conclusion, in my opinion the most important reason for the German defeat was the failure of their home front which led to supply shortages, German people against one and other and which in the end the war was ended by two diplomats forced to go by the German people rather than the total destruction of the German homeland which the Entente had been going on about for years.
