Halloween is just around the corner. You have priced some of those costumes in the store. Boy oh boy are those flimsy little outfits expensive. You have tossed a few ideas out to your youngster about making a costume at home from boxes and balloons, but your child simply won’t even consider it.
Your wallet starts crying when you enter the costume aisle at the local department store. Your child starts crying when you mention an alternative to the expensive store-bought costumes. What if your wallet and your child could come to an agreement?
Uniformed Cutey
Do you have any old uniforms lying around the house? Wouldn’t your son or daughter look adorable in a pair of scrubs? Maybe you or a neighbor has an old lab coat in the back of the closet. You can have your own doctor in the house. Maybe a mad scientist would be better suited for Halloween. Dress up like Daddy.
Does Daddy wear uniforms to work? Let your youngster head off to work on Halloween night dressed up for a hard night’s work collecting candy from the neighbors. Use a lunch box or lunch pail as a collection container for the goodies.
Scouts honor.
Your wee one will look adorable in a scouts uniform. If you have older children who have outgrown their Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts uniform, let your younger son or daughter borrow the outfit for the night. Instead of asking for cookie or popcorn orders, the youngster will be asking for treats. The Mini-Jock
Support your favorite team while out trick or treating. Have your child toss on that White Sox T-shirt and baseball cap you bought as a souvenir last summer. Older brother or sister involved in soccer or football? Borrow a helmet or pads and head out for a game of trick or treat and have a ball.
Would You Like Fries With That?
Dig through the attic and find your old McDonald’s hat or apron from KFC. Your little pumpkin can dress up in costume for some fast-food restaurant work. Food never came faster than a simple trick or treating and a thank you.
Your wallet and your youngster will be delighted with these fun ideas. He or she won’t be the fourth pirate on the block this year. Recycling uniforms can be fun and cost effective.
