Christmas Tree

Real or fake tree? Real tree for me.

Hello all, my name is Roberta Davidson. (Bobbie). You may have seen me at some of the Mystic Moon events and I would like to thank Pam for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the Moon Phase news letter.

Christmas Log

With the holidays right around the corner I have decided to challenge my self to the great debate on real verses artificial Christmas trees. This has been a hot topic for years and it really is a matter of personal choice.

Every year we talk about artificial or real. For the past three years, our family has made decision to go with a real tree. The decision was made by talking together and with others about the debate.

There are dedicated Christmas tree farms and every year they cut thousands of trees down for the sole purpose of decorating. Not all the trees will be sold, and it's sad that they all will not get a holiday home even though they do get recycled. Many people still go out and harvest there own trees from the woods were they live that is a tradition in many families to do so. Some trees can be purchased with roots for replanting after the holidays.

Bit of Info:

  • An average size Christmas tree takes about 7 yrs to grow
  • An acre of evergreen trees produce enough oxygen for about 18,000 people
  • Artificial trees are made of vinyl, and most are made in China, potential lead hazard

I get about a 5-6 ft. tree and I save it every year, my dog does the trimming of the branches and I get a 5 ft log. Here's what to with a Christmas log:

  • Make a decorative Yule log's out of left over tree pieces cut to about 3 ft in length
  • Slice into round disks and decorate, drill a small hole, then string them and hang
  • Use the dried wood to burn in an out door fire place and drink hot coco around the fire, being thankful to the tree for its energy to warm us

It is a hard decision to make but you'll know what feels right, when you really think about it.

Happy Christmas tree, to you.
