Day of the Dead

This is a review on a little bit about the spanish holiday day of the dead.

Day of the Dead is one of the widest celebrated holidays. It’s celebrated the most dramatically in Mexico. There are many different way and customs to celebrating this holiday and I will tell you about some of them.

This holiday started way back in prehistoric times. They celebrated it in many ways to honor the deceased. They did anything from making altars, to gathering for big parties and celebrations to honor the dead. The altars consist of candles, pictures, food, items to remind you of the dead, skeletons, skulls, flowers, bread, and many other things are used to create these altars. On October 31st it is a day of preparation. You go clean up graves and tombstones and decorate them with flowers. This is the day spent to get yourself, your grave, and altar ready for the big holiday. Then on November 1st you celebrate the dead children. This is the first of two days of celebration. Then on November 2nd you celebrate the dead adults. There are lots of parties going on the entire time, with some great, festive music.

If you are interested in this holiday, the more you look into how it is celebrated the more interesting it sounds. You may think it’s not that big of a deal but if you see pictures of some altars, and parties they have you would be amazed. This is some of what I have learned about the holiday, and every time I google it I find something new and interesting about this holiday.
