Have a Record Breaking Christmas

Christmas past has created some real record breakers. Can you beat these?

Christmas is a time for exchanging gifts and cards, having fun, and generally sharing with those around us. There have been some very unique world records set at this time of year. Everything from the best selling songs to the most expensive toy soldier has it's place.

  1. The best selling Christmas song ever is White Christmas by Bing Crosby. The record was set in 1942 when Bing sold over 50 million copies all over the world. This Christmas song is still being sold today.

  2. The very first G. I. Joe toy soldier was made in 1963. It sold in auction at 2003 for $200,000 US dollars.

  3. The largest gift ever given has to be the Statue of liberty which was given the people of US by France in 1886. It is 151 feet and 1 inch tall.

  4. The World's Christmas 'Cracker was pulled in a Sydney shopping centre in 1998. It measured 181 feet and 11 inches.

  5. The oldest mass-produced Christmas card was lithographed in England in 1843. It features a child drinking from a wine glass. One thousand were printed and only six copies remain. This card was coloured by hand because it wasn't until years later that it became possible to mass produce coloured cards.

  6. The heaviest Christmas pudding on records weighed a huge 7,231 pounds. It was made in Lancashire, England, in 1992. The largest mince pie weighed 2260 pounds and was also made in England.

I'm listening to the song as I write this comment. Good list of record breakers, and fun to read it with the musical background. I feel all Christmassy now!
