A young girl by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd became inspired to create Fathers Day. After the death of her Mother, Sonora wanted to show how thankful she was. Her Father, William Jackson Smart a Civil War Veteran finished raising Sonora and her siblings after the death of her Mother.
President Coolidge recommended that Fathers Day become a national holiday in
1924. In 1966, President Johnson designated the third Sunday of June to be the day of celebration. It was made a national observance on April 24, 1972 by President Nixon.
The official Flower for Fathers Day is roses. The red rose symbolizes the Father is still living. White roses symbolizes the Father is deceased. Many countries celebrate
Fathers Day as well. It is according to what their country or customs represent.
Fathers Day in Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Spain are observed on the 19th of March.
Australia and New Zealand celebrate on the first Sunday in September. Poland and Nicaragua have their celebration on June 23rd. The second Sunday in November is the celebration day for these countries Estonia, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
According to the customs of the other countries. The day of celebration for Fathers Day are observed at different times of the year. No matter when you celebrate, always
treasure and cherish the times you have with them. No one knows when they might not be with us.
