In countries like India, Bangladesh and Nepal only college students are allowed to celebrate V day (in middle class people it is necessary to take the permission of the parents particularly for girls). Valentine's day is not a holiday and students who want to celebrate bunk their colleges.
In Japan Valentine's day is celebrated two times one is on 14th February and another one is on 14th March. On 14th February girls give dark chocolates to their beloved and on 14th March boys give cookies or white chocolates to their lovers. Most of the Japanese females believe store-bought chocolate is not a gift of true love they tend to make it with their own hands.
In Korea, females give candies to their lovers on 14th February and males give gifts to their sweethearts on 14th March. Young people who have no particular romantic partners celebrate “Black day” on 14th April. These people get together and share black color noodles on this day.
In Denmark, males send a form of valentine known as joking letter (gaekkebrev) to their beloved. In this letter he signs the message with dots… one dot for each letter in his name; if the girl who receives this card guesses the name of the sender then she is rewarded with an Easter Egg later.
In Scotland, equal number of unmarried young men and women get together on V day; each of them write their name on a paper which is then folded and placed into a hat (one hat for the women and one for the men). The females draw a name from the hat containing the names of men and vice versa. In case, if the two drawn names are not matched, then male partner will accept the female who selected his name. They exchange gifts. The females would pin the names of their partner over their heart or on their sleeves. All of them enjoy by dancing. At the end of the festival it is usual for marriages to take place.
Chinese Valentine's day is celebrated on the 7th day 7th lunar month in Chinese calendar. Lovers exchange flowers, cards and chocolates on this day and visit the Temple of Matchmaker to pray for their love and marriage. Unmarried girls offer prayers to the Weaving maid star and seek her blessings to become smarter. Girls perform a test to know their maturity. They put a needle on the surface of water when the star Vega is high up in the sky. If the needle doesn't sink, then it is a sign of girl's maturity and she is eligible to find a husband. And she may ask for any one wish. It is also usual for young girls to demonstrate domestic arts like melon carving.
In Vietnam couples wear same style and color of clothes and exchange gifts.
In Spain it is routine for courting couples to exchange gifts and particularly for husbands to send their wives bunches of roses.
According to old Scottish custom, the first young woman or man came across by chance on the street will become his/her valentine.
In Taiwan Valentine's day is celebrated two times one on 14th February and another is on 7th July of the lunar calendar. On both these days men send their beloved bouquets of roses and other flowers.
