Christmas has always been a time when people are kinder than usual. Always been a time of family and friends. People seem to be happier and more at peace with things going on in there life. But then there are people who are now more stressed and miserable. Why is this? I honestly believe it's because they've forgotten what Christmas is really about. Christmas has become more commercialized than ever before. If we are to ever get back to the heart of why Christmas is celebrated in the first place, we must remember why we celebrate it in the first place. We must ask ourselves what's most important. Is the gifts, food more important than family and friends? Are they more important than decorations? I seriously believe that is what we have done. We have turned this holiday into something it was never suppose to become.
For Christian, is your family really more important than the God that created them in the first place? I hope your answering to yourself no right now. I know it is hard to think about what you would do without them around for the holidays. Yet what about all of the people that have to deal with that. I'm one of those people. This is my first Christmas without my mother. The means all I have left is my younger siblings. (who are in a foster home). If I lose them I'd have no family left. And yet I know that if I lost them the holidays would not be lost, because I know what the holidays are truly about. It's not about the food. It's not about the decorations. It's not about family or even friends. It's about the son of God. Jesus Christ.
It's not about the fact that he was born. I know many Christians are shocked that I say this. Think of it this way though. If it was about his birth than ever other baby that was born should have the same type of holiday, because if just being born is such a huge deal. What it is really about is why he is born. He is born to save the world. He was born to give us hope and peace. Why we celebrate it is because we know who he became and who we worship today and forevermore. Now to answer the question and the reason I've spoken in this debate. Christians not only can, but will reclaim Christmas as a holy day simply, because God is NOT dead. He lives in all of his children. And that brings up hope and the faith that shows that Christmas can still be a holy day as long as there are people who know what the true meaning is.
