Spanish and American Christmas Traditions

The differences between a Spanish and American Christmas.

There are many differences between Spanish Christmas traditions and American Christmas Traditions. In both America and Spain, presents are traded between family and friends. In both countries Christmas carols are sung around the town. Both relate to the birth of Jesus and the three Wisemen who followed the North Star to Bethlehem. Christmas Eve is an important and is celebrated with a large dinner. Many events after Christmas like new years day are celebrated by both countries.

There are also many differences between the traditions of America and Spain. Instead of a Santa Clause, in Spain the three Wiseman deliver the presents to the children. The foods are prepared differently and different carols are sung. In Spain people are knows to dance the Jota in the street, which is not danced by most Americans in America. In Spain, on New Years Day they eat grapes after every minute before the new year. There is also a large lottery before Christmas in Spain that dates back hundreds of years while in America there may be a lottery but it doesn't date back that long.

This is a very good article. I am from Madrid myself and I know what it is like. Christmas is huge in Spain. It is big because of the number of holidays celebrated in December. I loved Christmas in Spain, but here, everyone just looks forward to getting gifts.
