Saint Patrick's Day may not be as big a deal to some Americans as it is to the Irish Americans in the United States. This day marks a special day for some and a family fun day for others. Whatever your background with good ole' St. Patty's days may be, there are some fun treat and meal recipes that will make the day interesting and fun for the kids as well as the adults. Crafts that incorporate the day as well as meal ideas can add a special spark to the day that everyone will remember until next year.
Of course the main things people think about when anyone mentions St. Patrick's Day is green and shamrocks or as some call them, clovers. These are the so called logos for the Holiday and mark their territory well with decorations and events for the fun day. The first thing to do on St. Patty's Day is to put on something green, so why not make this little tradition more interesting by creating your own special accessory for the occasion? A great idea for such an item is to take various shapes of dried pasta and use water mixed with green food coloring to soak the pasta in. Soak the pasta for roughly 3-5 minutes and then use the pasta to create fun shapes like angels, shamrocks, or even fish. Use your normal Elmer's Glue and permatize the shape. Let it dry until the glue has hardened and attach a hand safety pin, or a craft shirt pin (bought from your local craft store) for a wonderful addition to any outfit and that added green touch, not to mention some fun time spent with the kids during its creation.
Another fun thing to do on St. Patrick's Day is to make everything you and your children eat green. This can be fun for you as well as the kids and will definitely spark up an interest with your co-workers and the other kids at school. With some green food coloring and some imagination you can make anything green. Add a few drops of food coloring to the mornings scrambled eggs and you have green eggs, soak the bacon in green food coloring before cooking it and you have green bacon, use a butter basting brush to brush some food coloring on the outside of the kids peanut butter sandwich and boom, you have a green sandwich. Just about any and everything can be turned green and if you are creative enough you can figure out a whole hoard of items to make the entire day stand out. Keep in mind that the traditions you set now are something that your children are always going to remember and the Holidays you make special, are the ones that later on down the road your grandchildren will get to experience as well.
