Strangely Bizarre Holidays in March

The calendar is cram-packed with special holidays that few people know about. Why not ask your employer to give you days off to celebrate these?

If everyone took a day off from work to celebrate all the special celebration days in the US, there would never be any work done. You could always ask your boss to let you have the day off to celebrate these.

1st: National Pig Day

Started in Texas, in 1972 to honor the most intelligent of domestic animals. On this day remember that pigs are sociable, intelligent and emotional animals. A pig's favorite treat is a couple of oranges.

6th: Dentists' Day

This is the holiday to display a great big, toothy smile. The dentist is a very important person, so we really ought to celebrate tooth. But, if the dentist is such a nice person, why are so many of us scared of him (or her)?

20th: Big Bird's Birthday

It's Big Bird from Sesame Street's birthday today. Get celebrating with the 8ft 2inch high, yellow bird with bright orange feet. His favourite friend is 15ft long Snuffleupagus.

28th: Respect Your Cat Day

Take a day off today and spend it pampering your cat. Groom (if your pet permits it!) Feed a special, treat and generally make a fuss of your feline friend.

30th: Doctors' Day

This is a day to honor and thank a special doctor. Send a thank you, a card, or a message to commemorate a special person.

31st: Bunsen Burner Day

This special day is the birthday of German chemist, Robert Wilhelm Eberhard von Bunsen who invented the Bunsen burner in 1811. This was a major discovery of an important scientific tool, as every High School student knows.
