The True Meaning of Christmas

Where did the term Christmas come from?

Why do we celebrate Christmas? Is it because it is one of the only times that families can get together or to give your kids gifts? These are the things we do but it's not the true meaning Christmas.

Christmas is ultimately known as the birth of Jesus Christ. In other words it is Jesus' birthday and we are to celebrate it as if you would your own child. When your kid has a birthday you make them the center of attention and you give them gifts and make sure they are happy. On Christmas we are to celebrate the birth of Christ. Keep Jesus in your mind and give him thanks for your family and everything you have. If it wasn't for the birth of Jesus we would have no such holiday as Christmas. I just think that people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. If there is a person out there that don't know the true meaning of Christmas then they need to be told. If you don't know the true meaning of Christmas I would like to tell you.

There was a virgin named Marry and in a dream she was told that she would become pregnant. She was told to name the baby Jesus and that he was the sun of God. Later during the pregnancy they fled to the town of Jerusalem. They couldn't find a place to stay and a noble man let them stay in a manger of his. Later that evening there was three Sheppard's in a field watching over their sheep and an angel came upon them and said that the son of God would be born that night in a manger in the town of Jerusalem. There was a bright star in the sky that gave them the sign. They gathered some goods to take and offer Marry. When they found Marry and Joseph in the manger they fell on there knees and gave them the items that they brought. There he was, it was Jesus lying in a manger. He was born on Christmas day. Actually that's why we call Christmas, Christmas, because it means the birth of Christ.

Now that you know the true meaning of Christmas I hope the holidays are special for you. Also I'm not saying that you shouldn't give gifts and gather with your family, there is nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying keep in mind the true meaning of Christmas. Everyone gives each other gifts, so give Jesus the gift of love and perhaps go to church on Sunday.

Just to give you some ideas of things you can do this Christmas to tell Jesus happy birthday and show him that you love him. My wife and I on Christmas always read the bible and listen to Christian music, to kind of set the mood. We also have a time of prayer when we thank God for the opportunity to celebrate such a holiday. Every year our church has a special service for Christmas and we attend.

I hope you find the true meaning of Christmas and happy holidays to everyone.
