It seems like every day lately we hear a story about a cop gone bad. They are accused of rape, murder, child porn, or child molestation. It may make you wonder who is serving and protecting citizens. One thing we must all remember is that cops are human too, they are not perfect and yes, they do make mistakes.
The sad thing is these people were sworn to protect and serve. It almost makes you not want to have faith in law enforcement. Drew Peterson, an ex Sergeant for the Bolingbrook Police Department, has been accused of murdering his wife. He has not been found guilty, he is just a suspect at this time, but cases like this involving police officers is alarming.
In every city there is a story about a good cop gone bad; but what we don't hear are stories about the good cops that help people every day. For every bad cop, there are hundreds of good cops going out every day and risking their lives to ensure our safety.
A couple of years ago in my home town, there was an incident where a man had fired shots at his wife, trying to kill her. She dialed 911 and requested help. When the officers on duty responded to the call, the distraught man began firing at them. Officer B.J. Connolly fired back. This shoot out went on for over an hour. In the end, the man who tried to kill his wife was fatally shot. When Officer Connolly spoke to the wife, she told him if he had not responded so quickly, she knows her husband would have killed her.
He saved her life.
These scenarios occur each day in communities all over the world. We rarely hear about the good ones because the bad ones stand out. Every cop is not bad, but the bad ones create a stereo type; and people assume all are bad.
The next time you see a police officer, thank them for risking their lives each day for our safety. It is these every day hero's who make our homes and communities a safe place to be.
As usual the negative reigns over the positive. But there are tens of thousands of wonderful policemen that doing an outstanding job.
You will find corruption in any business.
