BC Drivers License

A faulty program, that takes away from innocent people.

It is ridiculous to think that making it take longer to get your drivers license that it will make you a better driver. You can apply to get your license at the age of 16 in British Columbia, you go in and take a written test and if you pass you get your learners license (your L). Once you have your L you must complete 60 hours of supervised driving by someone who is 25 or older and has had their license for over five years. This is relatively easy to do for the average person.

With your L you can not drive from midnight to five in the morning. After you’ve had your L for an entire year you are then able to go to get your Novice level drivers license. In order to get your Novice drivers license (your N) you need to go out for a driving test with a qualified instructor, the test takes anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes. If you pass your Novice test this allows you to now drive on your own or with one other person in the car. Your Novice portion of your license takes 2 years to complete. At this point you can then go take another driving test in order to get rid of your N and finally get your Class 5 license after this three year process.

This process has been so lengthened and it doesn’t help driving accidents at all. The program is so ridiculous. No one can drive with more than one person in their car until they’re 19. The whole system is just a huge money grab for the government, it has nothing to do with improving the roads.

It costs $10 each time you go to write your L test, $50 each time you have to take your N test and if you pass it becomes $75. I personally have not gotten to the point where I can go to get rid of my N but I’m sure the process is quite similar to the others. Not to mention the inflated insurance payments we have to make on our cars because of our age. People should not be discriminated against for no reason, and that is basically what is happening, it cost me $700 for my insurance over the summer. That’s $700 to have my car insured for 3 months just so I can drive to work legally. We can’t carpool, seeing as we can’t have more than one passenger. I just recently renewed my insurance for 8 months just for Pleasure and it cost me $1400, I am not allowed to drive to school or work with pleasure insurance and that’s with my 10% discount for having driven safely for the past 2 years.

Insurance discounts should start at the top automatically and if you’re in an accident then drop them to zero and make the person clime back up. People should not be penalised for things that have not happened to them, and why do you have to go back to take a test to get rid of your N after you’ve been driving for 3 years. I could see having to take the driving test again to get rid of your N if you had gotten into an accident, but why must we go back and pay to take a test to see if we can drive if we’ve been driving for 3 years already with a clean slate. Why not just upgrade our licenses to Class 5 after the two years are up? Because they want the money.

Kids who drive stupidly aren’t going to be discouraged by having to display an N on the backs of their cars. It isn’t going to change anything, except for how long it takes everyone to get their licenses. Having your Class 5 license opens you up to a lot of other jobs that without it you can not apply to. The government is taking these things away from everyone, by trying to penalise people who don’t care if they are penalised. I don’t see the point.

Doctors, lawyers, judges, police officers, and even ICBC can make mistakes. Its human nature. If they want to improve the road safety and at the same time stop crime everywhere. Then lets try being a little more intelligent. We are Canadians. Were supposed to be known as the nicest people on Earth cause we are so inviting and friendly to everybody we meet. Our mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers grew up on these beliefs. But somewhere along the way we became selfish. We started taking everything in life for granted and stopped being thankful for what we already had. Our children then grew up and stopped respecting others. They went out into the world with no knowledge of finances, consequence, or values and beliefs. As a result the Youth of this generation have become lost. They don\'t no longer have the values and beliefs that older generations possess. And Punishing the younger youth isn\'t going to make them see ICBC or anybody that supports them in any positive light. SO who is to blame? ICBC? The Youth who are only acting on the values and beliefs that they have learned from there Family and Friends? I believe it is the lack of parenting in this world that has lead to so much crime in today\'s world. So I want you think about something. Do you think other countries like Japan have such low crime rates because they have such strict laws? No. Canada is in the Top 10 countries with the highest crime rates. So why is this? It\'s because people in Japan raise there kids on such strict values and beliefs at a young age so that they will not disobey the law. Sure the Law does have a small influence on the population because the laws threaten the parents and the parents fear for there children. So they educate there kids at a young age on values and beliefs that will only improve there qualities of life. These values and beliefs are what keep the younger generations on a focused track. These values and beliefs are what stop them from committing crimes. The problem with Canada and British Columbia is that we lack to teach our kids the values and beliefs to survive in the world of today. Sure some parents have educated there kids right. But most parents dont educate there kids right on the right values and beliefs. Even ICBC\'s employees have kids. Are there kids following the law? Most likely, because ICBC employees make it there first priority to ensure that there kids recieve the values and beliefs that respect the law. Some other families do this aswell. Most religions also do this. But so many kids get out into the world and experience this kind of extreme law enforcement for the first time and have no awareness of its capabilities. It\'s like sending a young boy to Juno Beach with no army training at all. He\'ll walk right into a trap and die. Not even knowing what happened. Same thing applies to the generation following the laws of ICBC. There walking right into a trap. And ICBC thinks that they have to sharpen the laws more to stop crime from happening. But thats not the intelligent way to look at it. The more intelligent route is to start educating our children on not only the laws of the road but the laws of mankind. Most parents will tell there kids that killing something such as an insect, a small animal is a crime and they imprint that belief brutally into there childs mind. Most of us have learned this belief at a young age and as a result not to many people will kill another person. So lets get started on better parenting. A young driver isn\'t going to drink and drive if his/her parents have given that child the values and beliefs that say Alcohol and vehicles dont mix. If a child heres that enough growing up and is traumatized by it at a young age then they\'ll never drink and drive. Thats how we learn our fears and strengths. And that applies to everything including fear of spiders, fear of debt, fear of the law. Parenting should be a part of a students school curriculum. It has been proven that children will do better in school if they are rewarded for there accomplishments instead of punished for there failures. And sometimes people wont even link fear of something to the right thing. Like when a driver recieves a ticket they could link pain to driving. But most people end up linking pain to the Person and organization giving the ticket. Better parenting is the only solution. Better parenting would stop murders, drinking and driving, robberies, rapes, armed thefts, discrimination, racism, stereotyping, bullying, fighting, Anything you can manifest as a crime in your mind could be prevented if we raised children with the right beliefs to succeed in life. If you told a child to always respect there elders they\'d respect there elders. Especially if you gave them a reason why they need to respect there elders. If you tell a child to respect ICBC, the police, and the law. And told them why at a young age. Then they\'d almost certainly respect the law, police officers, and ICBC. So help me in my quest to change the world. Cause I dont blame ICBC for everything. Cause we as a society have kind of forced them into this situation. And as a result they have had to force us into a difficult situation to. So who will make the first move? Who will help me ensure a future for mankind?

Yeah. Isn't it sad they will let us go off to war in Afganistan and risk our lives before they'll let us have two passengers in our own cars. Like come on. Being in a vehicle while getting shot at isn't safer then driving on a road with 18 year olds with their full driving permits.

This message pertains to "The Truth". That actually a good idea to leave BC. Cause I'm currently finishing my Pharmacy Program. Meaning I'm going to be a pharmacist. Perfect! ICBC just found a a good reason to drive Doctors, lawyers, and Pharmacists from ever wanting to work in BC. And you wonder why there is such a shortage of doctors, and even workers for that matter in BC. Cause in order to get a most jobs in BC your need a class 5 drivers license. And you need to have your own transportation. Why would I want to live in a province where I am discriminated against cause of my age? WHen I can go south into the states and get my full drivers license in 6 months with no restrictions and work for equal if not a higher wage in better weather, and a driving system that actually makes sense! Humans are designed to make mistakes. And what your going to see and are already seeing is not a way for ICBC to save money but there new system is actually costing the Government and Public more money! Cause by establishing these new driving rules it causes more drivers with there class 7 ans 5 licenses to debate there tickets cause they have no choice. If they dont dispute there tickets then they'll lose there licenses and cant get to there jobs, school, sources of stimulation. Now who do you think pays for the trial hearings that take place cause of tickets? The public tax dollars pay for the court trials and disputes. SO your money from your taxes is going to pay for the tickets getting disputed in court. So now the courts are overwhelmed, ICBC is overwhelmed with disputes, tax dollars rise, you cant get a trial for almost a year. Meanwhile your sitting at home wondering where all your money is going to. When in fact 50% of your wages are going into taxes to pay for my court hearing. Thanks by the way! And all of this happens cause of the new rules put in place by ICBC. It affects us all even if we dont want it to. Welcome to British Columbia. Take a number.

I took road tests at the Surrey office to get my N, but the examiners were nothing more than a bunch of f---ing a--holes because they failed my for bullsh*t mistakes. In fact this one moron I had said my scans "weren't on time". BS as far as I'm concerned, which is why I avoid that location at all costs. You can thank Rich Coleman, the alpha a--hole for changing all the rules and justifying new penalties in order eat people's money and shove it were the sun don't shine.

I have a different issue at hand. I have had the N for 10 years now. I refuse to go for a road test because it is a huge money grabber and frankly it is a waist of my time. Not only have I been driving in Canada, particularly BC, for 10 years, I have driven all over the world, including US and Europe. Yet, I still have to display N because, apparently, I am a new driver. So, my question is when do you become an experienced driver? Just because I do a road test with a biased examiner, that may have less experience than me, this will make me an experienced driver? This totally makes no sense. I tried to do a driver's test within my first 5 years of my Class 7 licence, but I did not pass because I was driving "too fast". I may have gone 2 km above the speed limit at certain times during my test but not constantly (I know this for a fact because the examiner warned me about speed couple of times). Obviously, I do not constantly stare at the speedometer while I am driving because I think there are far more important things to watch out for while driving. This is why I refuse to take another road exam and feed the government money. I pay enough in taxes as it is. Talking to other people, they always fail you the first time you take the Graduated licensing test (to get rid of your N). Well, I am not prepared to pay $200 to get a class 5 license. I love driving in Europe, esp. Germany, because all the drivers follow the rules. Maybe it has to do with the fact that when they first learn to drive they all have to go to a driving school for a year before they get a driver's license.
