Living in Britain today, what is there to be proud of in this once great nation? In years previous we had the empire but all that has faded away to independent nations around the World. And what is to be said of our armed forces? Under prepared and under equipped the victims of a reckless government.
I do not vote in the general elections, though I know I should, but I don't see anything in the parties available to vote for that I could actually pledge to. There are one or two good ideas from each party but on a whole I disagree with the rest of their pledges.
One problem with Britain in today's World is that of the yob culture, so much has already been written about it in the media but I would like to add my input. The trouble has nothing to do with kids having various personal problems, I'm so sick of liberals telling me "Johnny may have beaten up an old granny, but he didn't have enough toys when he was a young child." It comes down to accountability and responsibility; this isn't being taught and instilled into childrens minds anymore.
Instead of being disciplined for actions kids are told they're only being naughty because of something else, which has only created a society of "I only did it because..." instead of it being "I am at fault for my own actions."
There is no fear of discipline in today's youths either, which is again down to the liberal section that doesn't live in the real World. This needs to be addressed and sorted out because this is the very foundation of building a person's character as far as I am concerned. If you do something wrong as a child and are disciplined for it accordingly then you know not to do it again, this isn't rocket science.
Another problem with the youth of today is the lack of physical education in schools. The health benefits alone make more sports in school an integral part of the child's life. Along with more sports I believe there should be a theory side to it added to help explain the effects of the exercise, the effects of nutrition etc. This would both educate them about their bodies and help the alarming rate of obese children understand what they're putting in their mouths at McDonalds.
Also when taking part in team sports children are taught to both help each other, and rely on each other. This, if you haven't guessed would help them to bond and to chip away at possible selfish attitudes. But again, this has been written before over and over through the years but not used enough in today's society. Instead of having this at school most kids today have to go on government courses via the Job Centre to learn these skills that they should already have learned in school.
Going back to accountability, when someone commits a crime instead of getting a slap on the wrist and told it wasn't their fault they should be dealt with a hard line discipline. The majority of crimes committed end up with a fine that most do not bother to pay.
If the crime is committed by someone deemed too young then it should come straight from the parents regardless. The current method of payment of court fines should also be scrapped and replaced with a method used in Germany.
The money comes off any money they have coming in from either work or benefits. If the criminal is on benefits then automatically a large percent is taken from them and paid directly to the government to pay their fine. It would work the same way if the criminal had a job, the money would be taken before they received their wages. All fines should be kept on that person's record and employers would know exactly who they had on their books representing their company.
These are just a few steps that I feel the government needs to look at instead of the soft approach that's ruining our country; none of it listed above is difficult to understand. Maybe I'm banging my head against the wall with this, but hopefully something can be done to save us before it's too late.
