Censorship

Some agree with it others disagree. I myself am an avid supporter of free expression.

I believe censorship deprives people as a whole of the right to freely and openly debate and address issues important to them. If we are forced to censor or sell out expression of our views, is it still free expression? Of course not.

My question is this: Is being open minded so bad?

I think the right to learn from the views of others and address our views openly without persecution is essential to the health of society. Granted, we may not all agree with each other or have the same point of view, but that's the beauty of the First amendment. Through free speech it brings both the rich and poor to common ground, the God-given right to freedom.

Do you want freedom? of course. Why then is it so bad for people to debate freely and find that despite basic differences there are commonalities? Should free expression be restricted simply because we may disagree with one another on some things? No.

To debate our views is human nature as is to disagree on occasion.Healthy debate allows people to discover new ideas, to challenge accepted views and/or expand on them. To censor that right, is pointless because there will always be people with different views, to censor one while allowing another shows bias and selective persecution, and to me this is hypocrisy, since as human beings we are all subject to the same issues in life, and it is only human for each of us to deal with them differently.
