Child Abuse

Dissolving a horrible disease.

My first face to face encounter with a delusional illusion was in a Church at the age of five.

What I saw was evil and very scary but instead of running away from the verse I was given to read I stood there and looked right at it, then like a poisonous bug I stepped on it, squishing it as hard as I could into the floor of the stage that I was standing on not looking down again until my verse was read.

I couldn't control what was happening to me on the outside but I knew that I couldn't allow it to come in.

My mother meant the world to me and with her I felt safe. I new she loved me but I still couldn't tell her what was happening in fear that she would be hurt nor could I tell her what type of things I was seeing in fear of what she might think of me.

Mother watched that night in the Church as I squished that ugly illusion while saying the John 3:16 verse I was given to read. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not parish but have everlasting life. I remember looking at mother after I finished and she was smiling. I looked down again and the horrible illusion I had been grinding into the floor was gone and I felt very relieved. Being guided off the stage I saw mother standing there, waiting for me, smiling. She put her arms around me, hugging me and I heard her say how proud she was of me, but all I could think about was that ugly thing that tried to come up and out of the floor to get me, and I wondered where it had gone. Mother ask me on the way home that night what was wrong with my leg and why was I twisting it back and forth the way I did while saying the verse I was given to read, but even then I still couldn't tell her.

As a child we believe that everything is real or possible. Understanding what we are taught, watching and listening to everything around us and placing what we know with what we feel can cause us to become very confused and delusional without explanation or proper teachings taking away our confidence to express ourselves and making us vulnerable to fear.

Child Abuse has a negative effect on the functioning of children which cannot be accounted for by the specific living situations or socioeconomic environment of the child. Comparison studies have proven that abused children are more socially withdrawn, depressed, and fearful as well as having externalizing problems. Child abuse remains a serious problem and when the abuser is a parent it is far less likely that the abuser or perpetrator will be forthcoming or caught. (A perpetrator is a person who has been determined to have caused or knowingly allowed the abuse to take place), and is an accomplice to its cause. Some that are abused become abusers themselves, but not in this case. Being abused as a child myself mentally, physically and sexually my world was a very frighting place.

Our children are the seeds of our soul. Knowing that and looking into their eyes, what do you see? Helping in any way that we can and intervening in order to help dissolve this horrible disease in order for our children to grow up beautifully is something I'm very proud to be a part of.

Childhelp is a national organization that provides crisis assistance and other counseling and referral services. Jesus said; Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.
