“If you leave them here, it would be at your own risk,” said Officer R.
“I'm returning them to Macy's. I no longer want them. They have refused to give me my money. Please Officer, I would like you to state in your report that she assaulted me when she put her hands on me. She refused to apologize to me,” I said.
“I apologize to you!” said Officer R.
Owing to the mistreatment that I suffered at one of Macy's retail stores in Dallas, Texas in July 2006, I've not yet set foot in any of Macy's retail store since the physical touching. Furthermore, I telephoned the corporate office to notify them that I was no longer willing to accept the $300.00 for the physical injuries that I sustained on Sunday, July 2, 2006. It appeared that the corporate office deliberately sent me on a wild goose chase to be assaulted.
It's interesting to remark that I once worked temporarily for Macy's as a senior accountant in Atlanta, Georgia during their bankruptcy proceedings in 1991. During this time, Macy's creditors pardoned their bills. It's interesting to remark that Macy's creditors didn't demand to see a receipt. In reality, Macy's received a break from their creditors. It's also interesting to remark that Macy's has bounced back from the bankruptcy.
On Saturday July 1, 2006, I was at the Sears retail store in Irving, Texas to return some bath towels.
'I need to return them but I don't have my receipt. I'm disabled. Things fall out of my hands all the time,” I said.
“Don't worry. Sears will still credit your account without a receipt. We store the receipt in our computers for three months,” said the manager.
'I brought my visa statement,” I said.
“That's good. I don't see any problem with crediting your visa account. Go and get your refund with one of the cashiers,” said the manager.
I was in high spirits so I proceeded to the cash register, but a surprise saluted me.
"She needs a receipt before we can credit back her account,” said the top manager.
“Did you hear him? Sears can"t credit back your visa account without a receipt,' said the manager.
'But you told me that Sears would generate a receipt for me,” I said.
“Sears can't generate a receipt for you,” said the top manager.
“Did you hear that? We can't generate a receipt for you,” said the manager.
“I have a receipt from my bank,” I said.
“It's not our receipt,” said the top manager.
“Did you hear him? Your bank statement's not our receipt,” said the manager.
“Sears charged it to my visa account. Therefore, this should qualify as a receipt,” I said.
“Go look for the receipt. When you find it, bring it, and I will credit back your account,” said the manager.
When I tried to return them, the cashier wouldn't give me a refund. Again, I asked for the manager, but he called the manager's supervisor. I ended up looking for the manager. When I found him, he had changed his mind like a tornado. Initially, he solemnly promised me that he'd credit back my visa account, but he swiftly changed his mind when the cashier notified the top manager of Sears. I was hugely disappointed. How is it that two managers would beg to differ? How is that two managers would discriminate against a disabled woman? On the same day, I telephoned their corporate office to voice out my complaints.
On Sunday, July 23, 2006, I found my receipt. Immediately, I telephoned the manager.
'Come into Sears, and I will credit back your account. Come now!' said the manager.
“I'm on my way,” I gushed excitedly.
As always, I asked the cashier to notify him of my arrival. When the manager arrived, I presented him with the receipt, and waited for my credit.
'I can't accept these bath towels,' he said.
'Why not?” I asked.
“They smell like toilets,” he said.
“I've never used them,” I said.
“I can't stand the smell. Good grief! They smell like toilets. I cannot stand the smell. Puff! Puff! Puff!' he said.
“But you touched them the last time I was here,” I said.
“They now smell like toilets,” he said.
“That's not true. I've never used or washed them,” I stated.
“Sears will not credit back your visa account,” he said.
“I'm an Accountant, and I know about sales returns. “ I said.
“No customer in their right mind will buy them from Sears,” he said.
'Sear's a billionaire. Are you telling me that Sears cannot afford to credit back my account for $31.00?” I asked.
