Harriot, the turtle, was at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo, North of Brisbane, at the sunshine Coast, about an hour north of Brisbane, and died last year unfortunatley.
#2 by mikes, Jul 9, 2007
I call BS. Where is the source for these "facts?"

"most poorest?"
"last eight year?"
"T.V?"
feh.

What is the point of this. There's no citations or anything. How am I supposed to take it seriously.

#17 Harriet is dead as of June 23, 2006

#4 The number of people with diabetes worldwide rose from about 30 million to over 230 million.

Yeah, since when? Over night? Over 5 years? Over 4.5 billion years? Technically, the number of people with diabetes worldwide rose from about 0 to over 230 million. Hey, it's a fact. You can't argue with it.
Not to mention that this is the number of people DIAGNOSED with diabetes. maybe we're just better at diagnosing it now?

There are 3 different kinds of lies. Lies, Damned lies, and statistics.
#7 by I. Call Foul, Jul 9, 2007
Lame "statistics".
#8 by Dave, Jul 9, 2007
what kind of whale? the come in lots of sizes, what kind of elephant, African or Asian, and wouldn't kangaroo care involve stuffing the kid down your pants?
#9 by Choocher, Jul 9, 2007
Good Gentlefolk, the Center for Recent Studies claims that every three hours, another poorly researched, semi-literate list of statistical factoids pops up like a hemmorrhoid on the bunghole of the internet. Even more sadly, five out of three people don't even understand basic statistical theory.
#10 by DJ, Jul 9, 2007
Well, 80% of all statistics are made up...
#11 by Pierce, Jul 9, 2007
Only ignoramuses need citations or evidence. This is all generally true.
#12 by Michael, Jul 9, 2007
Unfortunately, Harriet the tortoise passed away a few years ago. She lived at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo, where there is now a permanent memorial to her.
#13 by Agent Zero, Jul 9, 2007
Unfortunately, Harriet the tortoise was killed by Steve Irwin's stingray just before Steve himself was killed. None dare call it conspiracy.
#14 by juggadore, Jul 9, 2007
got a lot of time, quake 120? yeah this list wasnt put together that well, but thats alright. it's not the writer's fault that it got so many hits. the first "fact" made me wonder--what type of whale? but really, this is one of the thruthiest articles ive ever read. who needs facts and citations? the only source should be the gut. thats where all your info should come from. by the way, stephen colbert is older than harriet and heavier than a whale's toungue.

Fact 20: Any twit with a blog can pull facts out of his ass, make a list and get voted to the front page of digg.

Good day sir.

I said good day.
#16 by Andrew, Jul 9, 2007
The facts picked here are both poorly researched and incredibly alarmist. Lets take the worst of the bunch... the one which invokes the alarmist's old standby "think of the children!
18. Every second a child dies because they didn't get enough to eat."

I love this one. If it's true, that is exactly no more and no less than 32,061,600, roughly the population of California, and 7 million more than the population of Texas, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia each. It accounts for 1 billion deaths every 30 years. or a doubling in world population every 200 years give or take. Yes there's a bit of rounding in these numbers, and a bit of a fudge factor but most of it is to the conservative side. This is trash science and whoever wrote it should be fired.
#17 by Andrew, Jul 9, 2007
Fear my ability to get Texas Iraq and Saudi Arabia into a statistic that doesn't involve oil or terror.
#18 by chris, Jul 9, 2007
@juggadore: absolutely brilliant. why bother with backing up random claims when there's gullible idiots like you all over the internet? gut feelings are far more "truthier" than studies and statistics could ever be.
#19 by Lies and more lies, Jul 9, 2007
If these are facts then link to your sources. If you can't, sensible readers will realise that you just made all this up to get clicks.
#20 by BuenoCabra, Jul 9, 2007
Number 14 can't possibly be true. Most people haven't even been to Spain.
#21 by jirayasensei24, Jul 9, 2007
number 12 cant be true the ocean is really big
#22 by jirayasensei24, Jul 9, 2007
i mean really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really big. the ocean is about 70% of the earth.
#23 by Ash, Jul 9, 2007
You should be embarrassed for yourself, promulgating such obviously inaccurate crap. What a complete waste. Functional intelects, don't bother refuting this drivel. People who believe blatantly silly and unsourced "facts" don't deserve the efforts of your explanations.
#24 by Rick, Jul 10, 2007
I've never seen anything written so horribly. Some species of whale are lighter than elephants-the WHOLE whale; you need to specify which species you're talking about. There are several others where not just the grammar, but the style, makes the item nonsensical. Citing some sources wouldn't hurt either.

Fact: "It is ok to make facts up if it helps you win an argument,to make others believe you are smart,or are trying to impress a girl to get laid."_me
#26 by Brade, Jul 10, 2007
Looks like this article has been appropriately pwned, esp. by Quake120.

Dude, you should have kept these "facts" to yourself...
#27 by zizu, Jul 10, 2007
220 752 000 of children die each yer of starvation? LOL

#29 by moobah, Jul 10, 2007
leave the article alone. the writer did a good job, considering he/she suffers from downs syndrome.
#30 by Dustin Harrison, Jul 10, 2007
Wow! So true. Read my story here on socyberty please it's called "How to conquer college:A complete guide". Also please leave me a comment. What do you think?
#31 by JD, Jul 10, 2007
Quake120, you are by far the biggest tool I have ever encountered. I actually can't believe someone like you exists. It hurts me deeply to know that you are allowed to breathe the same air as me. Oh God you are sad.
#32 by Adrian, Jul 11, 2007
Most previous respondents have, quite properly, questioned both the 'statistics' and the quality of language used. I did wonder whether the researchers and compilers might be estate agents or second hand car dealers, as few others skate quite so readily over either facts or decent English. But on the basis they are trying to sell me nothing useful or tangible, merely empty words, I can only conclude they must have a political background.

THEY TAKE OUT KIDS ORGANS?! SICK SONS OF -This portion of the text contains explicit material and should not be viewed by anyone- !!!
#35 by Kai, Jul 13, 2007
Well then Adrian, maybe you would like to enlighten us with some statistics that have been thoroughly researched and typed in impeccable english so that we can pick through it and question your grammar and the reliability of said facts
#36 by A Shadow in the wind, Jul 14, 2007
The three richest men in the world are worth as much as the 40 most poorest countries of the world.

I have to call your bluff

there's no way three men, no matter how rich can be worth as much as 40 countries, no matter how poor

and p.s. most poorest is horrid grammar

here's a thought

America (contrary to popular belief) isn't as wealthy as most people think we just hide it better than most, the country is 6 trillion or more $'s in debt our money isn't worth the paper it's printed on

does it even matter if they're good or not!? chill out!

Let me say this guys, the information is interesting, but the comments are the funniest things I have read in a long, long time. I needed to laugh as long and as hard as I did. Why tear the guy down, look what he's done, the most traffic I would suppose in a long time. Give him or her credit, all of this is good for a great laugh. It's not life or death, laugh and get over it! So glad I found you.

I am the guy who published the so called trash upstairs. My use of grammer has been questioned as well as my intellect. i would say whether you care to believ or not that all the statemnts are words of fact. please take time to research before you criticize. remember the title things i guessed you did not know. if they were obvious facts then why write it? well am doing a vol. 2 so get ready to throw more stuff my way. believe me my pride and wallet can take it. note: it is far easy to criticize another than take action. oops was my grammer wrong again? lol!
#40 by Leno, Nov 30, 2007
i forgot to add that i got over 100 people who said they liked it. to these i say thanks. i challenge the english and statistics proffessors to please write something and get this much comments and "i like it". ohh it so easy to just say i clicked all 100, well i challenge you to do the same. watch out for part two!!!!!!!1
