Harmful Trends

Trends that are harmful for menkind.

What do we want our children or grandchildren to remember and do the same things today in the future? Do we want them to remember the trends that we do today? I feel that trends continue over time and some are positive and some are negative. Some trends come from the surroundings you see on a daily basis in which include family, friends, teachers, and people in your neighborhoods. One of the most negative trends I feel that occur today is the idea of not taking education seriously because of making other things a more priority.

An example of this is that students feel that they need to work while going to school. This does not always have so much benefits except the opportunity of receiving money and becoming to understand independency. Students do not have time to do homework when they have to go to work. The hours students get home is late and are too tired to want to do work. Is showing them independency mean that they need to learn how to fail and by what expense? An example of this is a friend I go to school with. He works at Carvels and gets off of work at 3:30am every morning. He becomes too tired to do any work when he comes home to wake up at 7:00am to go to school. This has a big impact on his grades and has to make up a lot of work. The places students are working, especially minors should not be working at this time and goes against what the blue card says, which gives the students the opportunity to work but until around 12.

Another example is relationships. People put a lot of attention in their relationships and forget the true purpose of why they are in school. They go through things like peer pressure in sex and this is for both genders. There is two type of negative unhealthy relationships. There is a negative physical relationship and negative mental relationship. Both of these will affect the amount of energy you put into your school work and how well you do. An example is when I was in my sex education class, a boy was talking about how when he argues with his girlfriend, he can't focus on anything else because he is so angry and it affects him in school.

Is this how we want our children or grandchildren to be? If the answer is no, then we must be better examples and the other people surrounding them. People learn from example and if there are more options for students then this will be the last option. An example of what you can do is give children money and give them more freedom and when your child is in a relationship, advice them to take counseling in school to talk about their relationship. If you say yes, then it will be a trend of negativity that will never end. Should we continue these trends or break down the negative qualities we share as people?
