How GMOs Provide Everlasting Food for the Future

Longevity is what everyone wants in life, so instead of feasting on a harvest that was designed to bring people financial safety, it would be smart to find out what the independent people are eating. If you're a consumer, raise your hand, and say, "I want longevity, too".

While the economy is facing its biggest downfall since the mid 1900s, the cost of food is rising, making it difficult for the lower-class citizens to survive. Hard working Americans are forced to choose between high priced foods, and a food that fits in their budgets. The leading problem is that while Americans are working to eat, they may not know that when they buy the cheap stuff, it may not be natural.

Nestlé has asked European policymakers to reconsider their opposition against crops that are genetically modified organisms (GMO). The Chairman of Nestlé said, “You can not feed the world without genetically modified organisms…we have the means to make agriculture sustainable in the long term. What we don't see for the time being is the political will.”

So pretty much Nestlé wants to treat our food source like a political game of secrecy…where is the morality in this statement made by the Chairman? I believe that this is a disconsolation to our ethics, and the truth is that 90% of U.S. soybean crops are being genetically modified. So not only is this situation sad, but terrifyingly unconstitutional. Scientist have altered the DNA in these crops to increase production so that they can withstand chemicals like Roundup, which is used as a weed killer. Nearly three-quarters of all corn planted in the U.S. is genetically modified. If a product comes in a can or a box and the ingredients contains soybean oil, or corn syrup-then most likely it is made with GMO's. That means the stuff we love to eat like; cereals, can foods, frozen foods, hamburger helper, and Pasta side dishes are all processed to fit the government's budget.

CBS correspondent Armen Keteyian said that about 65% of all products in your local grocery store contain DNA-altered ingredients. Scientist Clara Moskowitz makes a rational point, saying that this technology will help overcome food shortages in the future. She has a point that GMO's will give us an everlasting food source, but the down side to this is what about the consumer's health? A lot of middle-aged people are dieing due to heart failure, high-blood pressure, and cancer. Although these conditions are proven to be genetically caused, eating processed foods can expedite such health hazards.

I am not trying to discourage people from eating what they've been a custom to for over twenty or thirty years of their life, but knowing what you eat can possibly help you prevent health problems in the future. Longevity is what everyone wants in life, so instead of eating on a harvest that was designed to bring people financial safety…it would be smart to find out what the independent people are eating, because they know the truth-and if you bug them long enough they will eventually tell you.
