"Mother" is revered and respected not only in India but across all continents and religions. And earth is called Vasundhra, Janini, Gaia, Terra Madre...as it conceives, sustains and nurtures life.
But is our respect shallow? Do we really mean what we say or are we pretending? We burden the Earth by growing vegetables and fruits in different seasons than in which they should grow.
We try to change their natural colors, their actual size, we try to make them grow faster, and we try to make them sweeter, etc.
We pollute the air, throw garbage without even caring! We dig and scrape the earth. We put artificial nutrients as if making up a false ugly face. We take away its clothes and cover of plants, trees and foliage and make buildings, roads and flyovers. We choke it with garbage, plastic and toxins and expect it to breathe and provide us fresh air.
Would we ever treat our real mothers like this? These acts are not exploitation but molestation of Mother Earth. We have changed the actual Earth into a weak, female slave, expecting it to sacrifice itself for our comforts and needs.
