My Problem with the N-word and White Folks Today

My attempt to understand why the N-word's use among certain blacks is a pass to some whites to use it.

Okay, I'm getting a little tired of white folks acting ignorant like they don't know why they "can't use the N-word but blacks use it."

Do you need a history lesson as well a mirror? What is the deal with that whole issue? Are you burning to use it or what? I keep hearing white people acting like it's a big deal that they hear these stupid rappers using the word then say stupid statements like "it's a double standard. Why is it okay for them to use it?" You also need to pay a little more attention to those rap lyrics you listen to and maybe you'll understand the culture you have bought into being entertained by to understand why these particular individuals (not all black people) use the term and like to use this term as a term of endearment amongst themselves. If you really want to know the answer, I'm sure you may find it by doing some research in the music and actually reading and learning something about the culture you seem to want to emulate. Stop trying to buy into something you don't seem to understand and start THINKING.

Why do you care about whether or not you can use this word that has such a very ugly and negative history associated with it and yet you don't want directly connected to you? Won't you be the first to say you didn't own slaves? Won't you be the first to say you're not racist? Then why the hell do you care about the freaking N-word when it has no reference to you at all? Do you even know what the word means? Do you care what it means or its origin? I'm not going to do your research for you because you can google the damn word to figure that one out.

I wish more white people would learn more about African-American history in this country and maybe they would stop saying stupid statements like those above or maybe they would start asking more profound questions or they would start challenging themselves or they would start really appreciating the beauty in our culture and not the anomalies or the coon shows.

So that is my challenge to my white brothers and sisters who may happen to glance at this piece. Challenge your misconceived ideas with some real knowledge for once about OUR heritage and history because the information is there. I challenge you to buy a book on our heritage instead of a damn rapper's CD for once.
