My sister works for this restaurant, I won't say which one, but it starts with a “c” and rhymes with “Ali Babbas”, and in the course of training for this job waiting tables, she and her colleagues were told to get everybody's name at the tables that they are waiting on. Now this is some annoying shit, both to do and to have to put up with at a restaurant.
I don't want my waiter getting all buddy-buddy with me when I go out to eat, I want a break from having to cook, clean, etc. I want my waiter to be seen and not heard. To be attentive but not overbearing. And as a waiter, having had to do this bullshit myself, it just plain sucks to have to try to get all these people's names and orders and other goodies they want. This is what becomes of bureaucracy.
The people in charge of making decisions are so far removed from the actual people they are making decisions for and about that they seem to pull policies and procedural courses of conduct out of their butts.
