Obesity is an issue that our society can no longer ignore. It is like concerns about the environment. We have to act now, before it's too late. Obesity is an issue that we have to focus on because people and especially children in North America are the fattest in the world; they eat way too much fried junk food and don't get enough exercise. There are roughly about the same number of over nourished people in the world as under nourished.
Did you know that 30% of all Americans and Canadians are overweight? This makes these countries the most overweight countries in the world. People are eating more of everything, including vegetables, but 60% of it is potato chips and iceberg lettuce which barely have any nutrients. Burgers from stores are larger, and pretty much everything has increased in size. People are getting less exercise due to longer working hours and laziness.
If you would compare the people from North America with the rest of the world, you'd notice that many people here are much fatter and because their fatter, they become dumb. It's true! Obesity in general makes people less smart; more blood has to go to the body rather than the brain. It all has to do with the foods that we eat and the amount. A typical Canadian would eat around a pound and a quarter per meal, and they are mostly bacon, fries, and other foods with a high fat content and lots of oil. They usually drink lots of sugary soda, and other high sugar drinks. A typical European would consume about ¾ pound of food per meal without much fat content, and would drink mostly wine and other alcoholic beverages. Comparing these two typical meals, the American choice contains much more fat and sugars than the European selection.
