On Images

There is no question about the impact of images in a person’s life, for images now communicate more powerfully than words. Thoughts and ideas are easier imparted when used with images rather with the printed or quoted words and statements, and it is true that these illustrations stick more easily to the mind rather than the abstract ideas presented to us by words alone.

Choosing to watch TV and movies over to read good books has not only won the interest of many, but it has also transformed an individual's mind from being relatively active into being passive. People have become less critical in their thinking with the influence of movies in their lives. What a person perceives on the screen has kept him from knowing the objective truth, and his beliefs are therefore angled to one side only.

Images do not only fill our imagination, but they also influence us to choose which of the two to follow: good or evil. And the threatening part in here is when people fall prey on the evils it forces us to believe in.

We know that we are not taking all the viewers in general, but the simple truth behind everything is that not everyone has the mind to differentiate between what is moral and what is not.

And with this being the case, more people are being trapped by the wrong image-makers of the media.

This truth is seen in our society today, and in my view the children are the ones who are widely affected by this mistake. Whatever a child sees, he will never have an idea that it is wrong, unless an adult is present to censor the images that he will view. Since they are children, they will never know that constraints and the truth.

But I am not concluding that all images present evil - they are only powerful. And with this power that they acquire, it would therefore be better to use it in the best way that would benefit all.

If images have the power to influence a person's ideals, to move a person's mind, and to somehow present truths and lessons, then definitely we could sanctify these images to bring forth sanctity, which is the truth that God wants us all to be imbued with.

You have an interesting view point on this. While I agree for the most part that images can more easily corrupt, there are examples of trashy books and magazines that have more of a detrimental affect on a person. I think that in general, any art form that causes a person to think and form their own opinion is a positive thing, and any that tries to imprint another person's views and opinions directly is a negative thing.

Sir, I totally agree with what you have written. Images come in different kinds and forms, but all of them bring along influences to our lives. The power they possess is both constructive and destructive, depending on the circumstances. The way we understand images, react and respond towards them causes the drastic changes in our lives.

Your article kindled a profound interest in me. It was an excellent piece. I truly admire your style of writing, Sir.

Marian, you are correct when you said that images are both constructive and destructive. This is the reason why media literacy is very important so that media consumers will be protected from the harmful effects of media. Keep on reading. Keep on writing. Cheers!

I definitely agree on your article, sir. Images really create a big impact to one’s life especially during younger years when one becomes very engrossed in looking at different pictures. Children use them to better understand things around them and to easily learn and adapt to their surroundings. Images give an individual a broader understanding to the real world we live in. They make our world a better place to enjoy and to have fun. However, they also bring harm to innocent minds. They open the minds of children to the wicked world we live in and bring fear to their parents for these things might push these earthlings to do evil.

I believe that your article will help a lot of people to be critical in choosing what images to look at and that they will be more aware on what images bring to their lives.

Sir, I have always known the impact of images to a person’s mind but it never occurred to me to write an article about it. Images—one word, well, one picture says it all. It leaves a mark that lives through time, whether significant or not. My memory works a lot like a microfilm. I first decide for a time then the images flash through my mind. Although there are times that I remember insignificant parts of it only. For example in a lesson I previously learned, I will remember that it was during that lecture that I slept in class and got a scolding from my teacher. However, I won’t remember the very essence of that lecture. I like the way that the article is brief yet informative.
