Ostracism and Simple Racism

African Americans being ostracized and subjected to simple racism.

Are African Americans still being racially ostracized? With the recent statement being made towards Tiger Woods that he should be lynched in a back alley, and Golfweeks Noose cover photo, can we say that African Americans are still dealing with racial degradation? Yes, we can. There is much debate whether broadcaster Kelly Tilghman should be terminated or not over her racist remark. Instead of immediate termination, she was suspended for two weeks, which I'm sure is with pay!

The justification for the suspension over termination is that this is the first time she has ever spoken in this manner. Ummm… if it's the first time, who's to say there won't be a second, third, or fourth time? Let's just keep suspending her. Suspension is merely a mandatory vacation. I'm sure she's feeling so badly that she can't function properly. She's probably curled up in the bed crying profusely because she's offended the African American communities worldwide. Whether Tilghman has apologized or not, she still said what she said. You don't just come out and make comments like that without thinking, especially as a broadcaster. Who says “let's lynch him in a back alley?” She could have said “a lesson needs to be taught,” or even “he should be taken in a back alley and beaten up.” The wording that was used could have been a little better.

It is a little disturbing that Tiger Woods so nonchalantly disregarded the comment [as an African American man], partly because they're friends and she's a good person. Who cares if she's a good person, and that they have a friendship. The choice of wording is what the issue is. The issue is not so much that a Caucasian woman made a statement in regard to lynching; it's the choice of wording that was chosen. African Americans don't necessarily want true equality and freedom. They know that this is NEVER going to happen in this society. They more so want their voices to be heard, and faces seen , whether they're right or wrong. All individuals, no matter their race, want to be heard, and most their faces seen. African Americans have been deprived for so many years of their opinions, thoughts, and feelings. Now, in this supposed “land of the free, and home of the brave,” it's actually viewed acceptable.

There have been several instances where racism was an issue by wording or actions from African Americans. Should they all lose their jobs? Should they all be reprimanded in some sense? Think about that question. If an African American makes a racial comment towards an Caucasian, is it ok? Is it ok because Europeans so to speak owe African Americans their forty acres and a mule? Is it ok simply because African Americans have endured an indescribable amount of slavery and racism over the years, that Caucasians have no room to say anything? Why is this? Why is everything so one way and biased with our country? Some individuals can say one thing, but others can't. Well, from now on, no one can say anything. Everyone has to keep their mouths shut. Who cares what your opinion is, or if you were offended or not. No one cares anymore. No one has the right to voice anything. Only speak when spoken to. The answers you give at that time, better be short and to the point. You are no longer allowed to express yourselves. This is a law. If this law is not abided by, you will be stoned to death, or beheaded in front of the town patrons.

America needs to wake up and loosen up. Americans have gotten so caught up in political correctness, and the concept of non-offensive behaviors. One cannot truly not offended everyone. It's impossible. There's always going to be someone who's offended by the littlest statement or action. Americans should try just living their lives for them, and not worrying about others actions and behaviors. Everyone seems to be so pressed for time, but it's funny how we find time to make the smallest incident an outright tragedy. Let's get it together America. How would you feel if we lived in a Communists society? What if there was no upper class, or bourgeoisie to run our society? What if our society only consisted of impoverished proletariats, or the lowest form of working class citizens?

Do you really think our society would be successful at all? Our society actually may be better off run this way, instead of the god forsaken political and economic system we have now. If there were no upper class, we may actually be able to get along better because there would be no race or immediate desire for money and class status. What would suck is if we automatically converted to Communism now. What if Bush imposed a law stating we would be a Communist society beginning February 1, 2008. Do you think you could survive and not kill anyone? I laugh at the thought of greedy Americans converting to one simple class system. America, get it together and wake up please!

It would be a shocker for a lot of people of we did convert to a Communist way of living. I do think the problem lies with classes, we always have to find a catagory or use a label to place people. I say do away with it all and let's all just live happily ever after. Yeah Right! I'm dreaming.
