Passion for Peace

A thought for those who love and want to know about peace.

The world today in view of news of war and that of terrorism shows a world in crises needing rescue.

The threat of war from what we can all see and as reported in the media shows also that there is need for caution by world leaders especially as their interest continues to grow in the development of weapon of mass destruction as an assurance of safety and of powers.

Cold wars and political struggles among leaders, people and nations further heighten tension and to that extent peace seems to be elusive and the need for peace-building efforts and initiatives increases.

Re-educating the world to love peace

It should rather be re-educating the world to love peace and promote it but not to rely on building armaments that can wipe out the entire humanity (Nuclear weapon). One nation believes that the more of these destructive weapons they have the more secured and safe they are. Experiences have shown that it is untrue. The one time explosion of the armory of the Nigerian army leading to stampede and thousands of unnecessary deaths explains the foolishness of acquiring dangerous weapons (Bombs etc) as an assurance for a safe nation.

The world needs to grow people that have passion for peace. The main interest for peace building is in engraving it in the minds of people because it is not an outward thing but grows within.

United Nations in Peacebuilding

The peacebuilding initiatives and peacekeeping operations of the United Nations as an umbrella body for nations of the world require participation and contribution from all and sundry. It is in view of the growing crises in the world today and the tension and loss of lives and property that I think we should reeducate the world to love peace by identifying some indexes of the causes of wars.

If most world's challenges on poverty are addressed then we are halve done on peacebuilding. We all know that a badly managed economy is a potential cause of war.

War has no barrier; it can occur where people exits, it is a part of living together but should it be watched with our hands folded?
