Racism is one of the most common forms of discrimination seen in our society. In America exclusively, though, it is most commonly against African Americans.
I once came across a website called
ihate.com
, where you can post articles on just about anything that you hate.
One person made a topic about how he hated black people, and used as an example to show how disgusting they are, a story about how he saw a black family pull up to a dumpster in their truck, and take out a sodden sofa, and put it into the bed of the truck. The author said that it showed how disgusting and filthy black people are, and continued to say that they did not deserve to be a part of this society.
Let me ask this question: Would only a black person do that? No. Any disgusting person might do that, no matter what race, gender, or whatever. Not even just disgusting people-could just be someone who desperately needed a sofa, and did not care what condition it was in.
To say that only a black person would do that is being both ignorant and self-righteous.
Another thing that bothers me, is that some people say in retaliation to the accusation of being racist, “No, I love black people” when often times, that person does not even know a black man or woman. That was the case for me. If someone were to ask me if I hated blacks, I would say that I neither liked nor disliked them. Why? Because I did not know any. There were no black people I knew that I could hate or befriend. Recently, though, I met a black person, and I like him, therefore now I can say I like a black person. But not "people", since again, I only know one.
But another funny thing commonly seen in America is how people mostly only associate racism with black people. When they hear about racism, most people just think of discriminating black people, and not any other race. Racism is not exclusive to black people, it can be towards against any race. There can be racism towards white people.
The idiotic thing about racism (other than almost every aspect) is how it often stems from some of the most unreasonable stereotypes, like the story about the sofa. Some racist people, however, I could understand why they would be racist. For example, if a child, at a very young age, were to witness the murder of his entire family by a black man, then it would be understandable for the child to develop a phobia of black men. But even then, it is still a fault of that person, and I hope that he'd eventually be able to get over his phobia.
There will likely always be racism, in many forms, and towards different races. It can be fueled by religion, what society teaches you, or the influence of your family. But no matter what, according to my morals, it is still a flaw. And I believe it best that any racist person tries to correct it.
