Society Will Never Be Free From Discrimination

What discrimination was in the past, what it is today and where is it going to.

“Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.”

I agree with the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Because hundreds of years ago black people where treated as slaves and considered as second class citizens by the white people. Today people are discriminated against because of their gender, sexual orientation, color, religion and looks. In the future as depicted by “Gattica” people will be discriminated against because they where not genetically altered when they where born.

The statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Is very much true because hundreds of years ago white people used to kidnap black people and force them to be slaves, the black people got all the worst things such as the worst parts of town, the worst books and the worst areas of a restaurant or pub. Their where even groups that where set up to kill any black person that did something “wrong” or any white person that was aiding a black person, one such group was known as the Ku Klux Klan (K.K.K). A good example of what the K.K.K could do is the movie “Mississippi Burning “where three journalists (two white and one black) where killed in Mississippi by the K.K.K, they killed the two white journalists because they where friends with the black journalists and they killed the black one because he was black. In this movie it shows the K.K.K had ties in the whole tow, the sheriff and the local police department where all apart of the K.K.K, witch shows that their would be no justice against the inhumanities that where happening in Mississippi because the “law” was apart of these inhumanities. This is why believe that the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” is very true.

Today we would like to think that discrimination has become less common but in fact it has increased, because now we don't just discriminate by color discriminate by age, race, religion and appearance. This displayed in this example, Wal-Mart one of the biggest franchises in America has been sued by a female employee for non equal rights because a male counterpart was offered a promotion and she was not, also the male counterpart who was doing the same job as her was being paid more then what she was. This example further proves that the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Is true.

In the future as depicted by “Gattica” their will still be discrimination because as technology advances, their will be new things to discriminate about in the film “Gattica” man has the ability to genetically alter babies so that way they are the strongest, smartest person possible but with this comes a very big price tag, so any one that could not afford to genetically alter their babies had to have their child normally. So as you can imagine the superior genetically altered people where better than the normal “faith birth” or normal person so business would only choose the best person for the job so the faith births where discriminated because they where not as smart or as quick as the genetically altered people so the faith births never got to be an astronaut or a lawyer or doctor, instead they only job the faith births could get was as a cleaner. So as we can see discrimination will still be around and it won't be because of their skin or looks, but instead they will be discriminated because of their “inferior genes”. The film “Gattica” is another good example of to why I believe the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Is very much true.

I think the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Will always be true because people will always pick on people that are different from what is supposedly “normal” whether it be 100 years ago where the K.K.K members that would kill black people that did something “wrong or even go to the extent of killing white people are discriminated because of how they look, speak, their religion, ethnicity and so on (for example the Muslims are being discriminated against lately because the terrorism attacks have been by Muslims and so now all Muslims are regarded or suspicious of being a terrorist in the eyes of the U.S.A) or whether it be in the future where people are not discriminate by their skin color, religion, ethnicity and so on but they are discriminated against because they where not genetically altered as a kid and their abilities are not as good as the genetically altered, and because there is less risk of a genetically altered person to catch any major diseases or to have a heart attack, or to be obese.

So as a recruiter who would you rather have between some one who will very rarely have sick days and was “built” for the job or someone who could have a lot of sick days and may not be able to work as hard, who would you pick, so really even if we say that we have gotten rid of discrimination we haven't because someone, somewhere will be discriminated against, because they are not “normal” this is why I believe the statement “Society will never be free from discrimination. The only change will be in who we discriminate against.” Is and always will be true.
