The world is a great place yet man continues to pervert it. One of the major issues in my community, being the world, is poverty. The politicians of today enjoy solving the problems of other nations while turning a blind eye in their own nation. Poverty affects more than two thirds of the population. And while the rich are getting richer the poor are getting poorer.
The state calls its own violence law, but that of the individual crime. When they refuse to help victims of a natural disaster or leave children in a dangerous and unforgiving atmosphere they are the reason for the problem. Here are some of the sad truths dealing with poverty in today's society. Might I remind you that there are certain individuals in this world who are worth millions or even billions while nearly half of the world survives on less than two dollars a day.
- The poorest 40 percent of the world's population accounts for 5 percent of global income.
- The richest 20 percent accounts for three-quarters of world income. Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
- Some 1.1 billion people in developing countries have inadequate access to water and 2.6 lack basic sanitation
- Out of the 2.2 billion children in the world 1 billion live in poverty
- 20% of the population in the developed nations consume 86% of the world's goods
The world is falling victim to poverty and it is an issue that is not soon to disappear. The only way we will relieve ourselves of these problems is if we all work on our spending and saving. Men have been taught that it is a virtue to stand together but the virtuous man is he who stands alone. And if every man stood alone and expected nothing from no one but him self the world would truly be a better place. But men need a push of encouragement so until man learns how to stand alone , let us all join together in helping every one get to their feet.
