Do you ever look at somebody of a different ethnicity and think they are the type to burglarize me, or blow up my house? This is called stereotyping, and many people do it without much thought. Stereotyping can lead to unnecessary hatred. It causes most of the violence in the United States. My family and I have experienced a great deal of that unnecessary hatred.
In General
Stereotyping is when you label somebody. It can be because of the way someone dresses, or because of there race. Most people stereotype because they see the news and assume. They assume that because the suicide bombers were from Iraq, that everybody from that country are terrorists. That is stereotyping people, and it's sad that people fear and dislike certain races, because they stereotype. My grandmother was a little girl when Hitler tried to get rid of all the Jews. She is German, but she does not have the same beliefs that he had.
Situations
I observed some racism when I was in high school. Most people did not like blacks because that's what there parents or grandparents believed or were taught. Some of the people thought that it was ok because it was there family's belief. My parents were raised in a family were it was ok not to like other races, but it did not change their beliefs. They had no problem with other races. They made up their own minds. Other people's beliefs should not have an affect on what you believe.
Types
Most people still stereotype even though it's not right. They label you due to your race or other things. It was a big problem in high school. You were labeled as a Goth, jock, prep, redneck, or just a weirdo. Some don't mean to label you, it just comes natural. Stereotyping can lead to hatred. Maybe one day people, people will quit being racist or quit stereotyping others. Till then it will lead to more violence, and it will continue to be a problem in the United States.
