Locally in the Fair city of El Paso, Texas, The good folks at desert winds middle school decided to ruin one girls 8th Grade Prom. You may ask who would do such a terrible thing? I'll tell you. This Insane administration system. This girl who goes by the name Denise Guerrero, decided, like other girls her age, to improve her appearance. And what better way than to get highlights. Sounds harmless Right? Well, the Good folks down at Desert Winds don't think so. To them, blond highlights are a “Distraction”. Oh sure, I'm going to be sitting down in my mundane algebra class and go “LOOK, she has highlights, lets all stare, I am DISTRACTED by those highlights, I mean just LOOK AT THEM, their so, different!”
Of course, I hate to say it, but it wasn't all Administration's fault, she knew the rules and consequences, but, in her position I would do the same. Let's get real, folks, what in the devil is wrong with highlighting your hair? Seriously I am baffled by this rule; I would have highlighted my hair (if I had enough) Just to say, “well, they can't possibly do anything about this, can they, Seriously, are they that dumb, No, it cant be true” but it was, she got a month of in school suspension, missed her 8th grade prom, graduation ceremony, and got kicked of her soccer team, because she wasn't her natural hair color.
Another rule that I saw was that you could not have shaved heads. I can understand the little reasoning behind it, but what if the student just finished Chemo. What if he's Buddhist? Well, the parents filed a grievance to the school, but being her last year; they couldn't do anything about it. It's this kind of Stupidity in our school systems that make me mad, I understand that they want to make a safer learning place, but come on, they just go too far. Seriously, HIGHLIGHTS, what is wrong with Highlights! And they weren't crazy, punk, Goth, pink and purple highlights, they were normal, blond highlights on light brown hair.

Does that look distracting, does it draw your eyes way from your exam. Does it? I think not. This is it for this article, I hope you enjoyed and I encourage you to fight cases like these in your community, find the most absurd rule in the book and fight it, because our schools need to focus less on minor dress code issues, and more on learning
