The Internet has opened the door to creativity and exposure. A good idea can become an online business with very little start up money. Likewise a good video can make you a star. Some friends of mine recently called and said I was on MTV, sure enough I pulled up the site and there I was. As they scrolled through the list of posted comments for Mitt Romney my picture and comment popped up twice.
On more than one occasion YouTube has made headlines with someone's newsworthy video, like the cell phone coverage of the college shootings. With Myspace you can have thousands of friends on your list, put pictures of anyone you want up and the not-so-popular have found a niche to fit in, an outlet to fill their void. Anything you want to see and anyone you want to find can probably be found on YouTube
, Myspace
or Yahoo
, the all powerful triad.
I have seen some very entertaining video clips, artwork, music, and more. Exposure is easier to obtain than ever before, what are the side effects? Delusions of grandeur possibly, but there are others. Productivity in the workplace has plummeted due to “surfing the net” employees are looking at art, checking their messages and trying to run online businesses from the workplace.
With the good comes the bad. It's all about balance, the Internet while liberating and informative can also become addictive and destructive. Marriages have been ruined, financial ruin in some instances; I read an article the other day the said a couple left their children hungry because they were so obsessed with the chat rooms neither would leave their computers to feed the infants. Come on people, has the Internet be become the new boob tube with a little more interaction?
I myself am guilty as charged, it truly is the only way "We the people" have our voices heard by a large mass!!!
