My wife recently started a new job, she was up for a challenge. however she didn't realise what that would be.The challenge of time.
She has a little palm computer into which she has to input her life, every working moment. She then has to synchronise the machine with its mother at her company four times a day. Now if having a leash around your neck isn't bad enough the machine has a mind of its own and deletes appointments, she comes home stressed aggravated and feeling unsupported and i am sure that this is now a very common occurrence in many households around the world .
What has happened to our world that people no longer count and all that matters is the bottom line. Soon, if it is not already the case technology which is reproducing itself to be smarter and more efficient will no longer be able to be kept up with by the mere mortal, whom has to cope with the emotions and biological requirements of living let alone working. No wonder drug abuse, alcoholism, sexual and relationship problems are rife in the western world. If we abuse ourselves enough we switch off the part of us that is human that needs love, support, companionship. We as a race are very quickly becoming disposable machines and what for, all of what we earn goes straight back into the corporate sector. We are bombarded with subliminal messaging designed by psychologist which have sold there soul to the advertising companies to convince us to buy things we really don't need. Just because technology can build it doesn't mean that we need it..
The basic requirements of being human are water, food, shelter, love, and community and when everyone starts to realise that we are being dehumanised by the need for things which do not serve either us or the environment then we may be able to secure a future for mankind .What use all the nifty timesaving devices if we have to give up being human to obtain them.
We evolved on this planet to be human not machines .Man once had a relationship with the earth. We new how to work with its living energy
and the relationship was reciprocated. Time was measured by daylight, the phases of the moon and the seasons. We respected our place in the enormity of the cosmos. Now I know we cannot go back, however if we do not find a way to reconnect with our humanity and our place in the eco system ,then mother earth may decide she would rather start again without her troublesome children.
All the technology in the world cannot bring us back into relationship with the mother. That has to be our conscious choice .
Well done Micjay, you've said what I've often thought.
