For years, we have heard the ongoing battle between smokers’ rights and non-smokers rights. We have heard opinions stating facts that second-hand smoke kills. This has lead government to step forward creating new laws protecting the rights of those who fail to inhale the tobacco substance. I have one question. What about the rights of those who choose to put that “cancer stick” to their mouths and puff away? In my opinion, it has gone too far.
I have heard many stories of homeowners not allowed to smoke inside their own home, because their HOA does not allow them. I have heard many bar owners and bingo halls loosing their means of survival, because the government has stepped forward with this ridiculous law, stating no one shall smoke a cigarette within twenty feet of the front door. In Boulder, Colorado, a smoker cannot enjoy a cigarette while driving in his or her own vehicle.
United States of America. What a wonderful place to live. A place where there is freedom of speech, freedom of choice, and the pursuit of happiness. How is this possible when the government tells me where I can and cannot smoke? I fail to see the freedom of choice written anywhere in that law. What gives them any rights? Sure, tobacco lets out carbon monoxide, a form of toxic gas, yet I do believe that automobiles let out five times the dosage. Maybe they should make a law to ban the driving of vehicles.
