What Leads to High Divorce Rates in Today's Society?

Common factors that leads to high divorce rates in today's society.

Rising divorce rates are no longer a unique or alarming in today's context. In fact, most industrialized or modernize countries are moving upwards in terms of divorce rates.

There are many factors that lead to high divorce rate as from my own perspective. Among the strongest reasons are; education level in women, expectation of marriages changes, women in workforce, and also the legal changes in divorce laws.

Firstly, education level has been deemed as a strong effect on divorce rates. Statistics have shown that women who have gone on to graduate school have a greater likelihood of divorce than some less-educated women. This is mainly because women who went on to graduate school mostly go into the workforce and they can stand on their own and do not need to rely on their husband's financial.

Another reason for today's high divorce rate is that many have come to expect a great deal from marriage. Marriage is no longer like those old days where the husband's expectation is to be a good provider and the wife to be a good mother and family caretaker. Times have changed and so do the expectations change. We now look to marriage as a source of emotional support in which each spouse complements the other in a variety of social, occupational, and psychological endeavors.

Finally, high divorce rates can also be traced back to the legal changes in divorce laws. Many countries today have instituted the no-fault-divorce laws where these new sets of laws allow a couple to dissolve their marriage without either partner having to assume blame for the failure of the marriage. Under the no-fault-divorce laws, it's has made divorce a much easier process and explains why the divorce rates in today's society is skyrocketing.

But, even the divorce rates have increased dramatically, but the re-marriages rates have also increased in parallel. This simply means that the right partner has not been found and that one goes through a marriage-divorce-and-remarriage process to look for the most suitable partner in life.
