How to Translate

The following steps in translation process may be helpful for you.

When you translate the text, you can use the following steps:

  1. Use the softcopy if any.

If you have the soft copy of the text you want to translate, it will be helpful. Copy the softcopy, save it with the new name and keep the original softcopy. Change the font color of the text to differentiate between the part you have translated and the rest you have not. Change the font of the part you have translated into black. Do it to make sure that you translate all sentences.
  2. Get the main idea.

Read text you want to translate and get the main idea and the theme of it.
  3. Find the difficult words and terms and get the meaning of them.

The test may belong to certain genre, which contains terms of jargon of certain disciplines, such as engineering, law, economy. You can ask for the meaning to the people who understand that disciplines or to those who give you the task to translate. Consult the dictionary or search the meaning of the words in search engine or Wikipedia. It will be helpful since you can search many updated information, especially new words, via Internet.
  4. Focus on the meaning of sentences.

Based on the context, the meaning of single word may vary. Get the meaning of each sentence and the main idea of each paragraph to make sure that you translate correctly.
  5. Be aware of the style of the text.

You should identify whether the text uses casual, funky, legal, business, or academic language. Make sure that you translate into the same style.
  6. Be aware of the jargon of target language.

Make sure that you translate the jargon in the text into the jargon of target language accordingly.
  7. Check the grammar of target language.

After translating the text, check the grammar of target language.
  8. Check style, jargon, and meaning.

Check the style, jargon, and the meaning of target language even if you use translator tools or software
