Many people leave their country and reside in the United States for A better life. I feel it is only fair to say that with better opportunity comes knowledge. Therefore is it not fair to say that although most people like to speak in their native tongues, it is appropriate that they are taught how to speak language. In my opinion, I believe it is unfair to have other people converge just so that people coming from another country do not have to learn our language.
Some people reading this article might think I am bitter. But the fact of the matter is I am not. In fact, I have no problems with people speaking in their native tongues. However, I have a problem with the fact that since they came here for a better opportunity, they should try and reach their extreme potential of all the opportunity this country has to offer. For instance, I am from another country. But fortunately for me it was an English speaking territory. Therefore, I never had a problem in learning the English language. I know that it is hard learning a new language. Especially, English when they are so many rules to follow. However, with the opportunities such as free English classes so that they are on the same level as other people. It is not a bad idea to be able to speak multiple languages. In fact, it is a gain on your point. It is a proven fact that people who are bilingual will most likely get the job ahead of a person who only speaks English. And it not just speaking English either.
For example, think about this scenario: Your only language is Spanish. Well an employer is not going to hire anyone who can't speak English because they will not able to get any work done. In stating those facts, I believe that people should open their eyes and reach for the stars. I believe that this should be a wake up call for everybody. Instead of getting a translator, people should learn to do for themselves because that translator may not be conveying the message you need to have across correctly. The only solution is to have your own voice and speak up. The only way to do that is to reach out to family members and your communities and learn that English.
