The death penalty does clean up jails by controlling the population to prevent over crowding. According to the Death Penalty Information Center with the national murder rate at 5.7 per 100,000 in a 2006 study, also the area of the country with a murder rate higher than the national average is the south west. With the death penalty it is more costly to conduct an execution than it to put a defendant in prison for life with out parole. If you put a defendant in life with out parole it will be a lot less hard on the executor mentally to kill some one.
With death penalty abolishment the jails would overcrowd and the state would have to waste funds on building new jails. The funds allocated towards building new jails should be used towards executing the defendant. Another disadvantage to abolishing the death penalty would be that if the defendant was innocent than that person would be wrongfully put do death. According to the Death Penalty Information Center in Florida has the most death row releases tallying in at 122 released in 2007.
Lastly another disadvantage would be if the death penalty was abolished than the state would have to keep all of the death row prisoners on life without parole. The cost would greatly be diminished if the death penalty was abolished than the state would have a lot of more funds for education.
In conclusion the death penalty is a widely debated topic that needs great consideration and debate. The death penalty is also a great debate topic that has many reasons. All in all with the death penalty it is a part of our every day lives and needs more proper consideration.
