The Different Variations of Theft

(contd.)

And then there are heists. The fascinating thing about heists is that the perpetrators of this crime not only posses the actus reus, but they also posses the mens rea of the offense, and acknowledge the risk of the consequences they will face if they get apprehended. The most credit does not, in fact, go towards manpower, firepower, or even the getaway; but towards the planning, brilliance, and the amount of lives that were not put at stake. Almost anyone can come up with weapons, men, and a getaway for a heist, but the true thrill is awarded to those who manage to create the "perfect plan", and execute the operation with minimal setbacks, such as casualties and police interference. The reasons that people commit heists is just that; they do it for the thrill, the challenge, and, most importantly, the reward, which could be cash, prizes, and/or even the satisfaction of successfully executing the heist. Although cases such as the Berlin Heist are marvels, due to their extensive thought and planning, even cases without extensive planning and brilliance are marvels, such as Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Heist, where two men posed as Boston police officers and stole 13 masterworks, including three Rembrandts and a Vermeer, valued at approximately $300M for all 13 paintings. Heists such as these bring a new dimension to theft, truly making it different from other forms of theft.

There you have it, three contrasting portions of law that not people seem to take little acknowledgement in. Understanding these variations of theft is important in keeping yourself safe. Kleptomaniacs cannot control their urges to steal, so it is important for you to keep your eye on them if you know one, and it is even more important for you to protect yourself if you are one, and take medication. As for identity theft, you must be aware of their tedious techniques and always stay many steps ahead of identity thieves, ensuring that you will be the only person who goes by your name. Then there are heists, not something you may be faced with in your lifetime, but it is still good to know about them, just in case; you don't want to end up as one of the casualties. Next time you think about theft, you will have a greater knowledge, and many more portions of theft will cross your mind; knowing more about theft can always do more good than harm.
