Zero tolerance is the policy or practice of not tolerating undesirable behavior, such as violence or use of illegal drugs, especially in the automatic imposition of severe penalties for first offenses.
For example if a person pick pocketed and was caught and there was a zero tolerance policy then the pickpocket-er would not have been given any tolerance.
My views on it are that it is an efficient way of preventing crime as criminals will not be let off and therefore may encourage them not do to it again. Some people have different views on this, some people say that it is unfair that they are given no tolerance toward there crime witch may have been an accident.
I think it will be good is it was introduced as the crime as it may reduce the crime rate here. Over the past few years the crime rate of the USA and many other countries has fallen and is falling as shown in the line graph to the left (for USA). Is this due to Zero tolerance? In Singapore they have a zero tolerance policy. So have the crime rate decreased? Well Singapore has a lower criminal rate per 100,000 people than the USA. With Singapore as 46 criminals out of 100,000 and USA with 981 criminals. This clearly shows that crime rates have decreased and that the zero tolerance here would be a good thing. Will we make our 504 criminals per 100,000 people to 46 like Singapore maybe not but it will make a difference.
