20 Free Random Acts of Kindness

We live in such a self-absorbed society that we often fail to notice the people around us who may need a kind word, reassurance or a helpful hand.

So take a minute, slow down and observe others who may need a random act of kindness today.

  1. Hold the elevator door open for someone even though you really are in a hurry to get to your appointment
  2. Give an older person your seat on the bus or subway
  3. Allow passengers to exit the elevator first, before you enter it
  4. Hold the door for those carrying a large bundle or young children
  5. Use the words “please” and “thank you” to your co-workers, your boss, your children and even the taxi driver
  6. When speaking to your co-workers, friends, parents, children or even strangers make eye contact with them
  7. In a conversation take the time to just listen and let the other person speak
  8. Say “Good Morning” to your co-workers, boss, neighbors and strangers that you meet
  9. Ask how your neighbor, friend, boss, mother, child, sister is doing and don't be in a hurry to only talk about yourself
  10. Pick up the litter that you see lying in your neighborhood, around your school campus and on the beach
  11. Use your turn signal when driving and be a courteous driver
  12. Allow the person behind you in the check-out line to cut in front when they only have a few things and you have a full cart
  13. Walk your shopping cart back to the designated stall in the parking lot
  14. Check on an elderly neighbor just to see if they are okay
  15. Make a pot of coffee at work or home without being asked
  16. Bake some cookies and give some to the gardener, the postman, your child's teacher or a neighbor
  17. Wait and then eat your meal after everyone is served
  18. Clean up your own mess at home, in the office lounge or when eating in a fast food restaurant
  19. Leave the porch light on until everyone arrives home safely each night
  20. Call your mother, father or children when you reach your destination just to tell them that you arrived safely

If everyone practiced just a few of these random acts of kindness we might find less loneliness and more happiness in the world. Random acts of kindness demonstrate that someone whether friend or stranger cares.

Try some of these random acts of kindness today-what do you have to lose?

I got off the elevator today and this guy practically ran me over trying to get on the thing. It was very rude. Good piece.
